○What is “stomatitis (aphthous ulcer)”?
It is a general term for inflammation in which one to several shallow small ulcers (less than 10 mm in diameter) are formed on the inside of the cheeks, tongue, back of the lips, etc., with reddish surroundings and whitish circular pain with a shallow depression in the center. The cause is not clear, but stress, fatigue, or poor nutritional intake are thought to be involved.
